Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How many working days of internship do I need to do in total and how should I plan this period?
You are required to complete a total of at least 40 working days of internship. This 40-day internship must be divided into two as 20+20 working days in two different institutions or organizations. The department recommends doing one of these internships in the public sector and the other in the private sector.
Is attendance mandatory for the internship? How much absence is allowed?
Attendance to the internship is mandatory. If there are days you cannot attend due to valid excuses, you must compensate for these days. However, these compensated days cannot exceed 10% of your total compulsory internship duration.
Can I do an internship during the academic term (Fall/Spring)?
As a rule, students cannot do an internship while continuing their education. Internships are strictly prohibited during add-drop weeks. However, students who have at least 3 full free working days a week during the Fall/Spring terms or summer school can do their internships on the days they don't have classes. Submission of an approved course schedule and transcript is mandatory.
Are internships done on weekends (Saturday-Sunday) counted as days?
Only internships done in businesses that document their weekend operations are valid. For this, a wet-signed "Saturday-Sunday Work Permit" obtained from the workplace must be submitted along with the internship report.
What conditions must the institution where I will intern meet?
The institution must have at least one of the functions of project, design, production, or research. One of the most important conditions is that there must be at least one engineer graduated from related engineering branches (Electrical-Electronics, Computer, Mechatronics, etc.) responsible for the interns in the institution.
I am working registered with SGK (Social Security Institution), can I be exempt from the internship?
If you are working registered with SGK in a relevant sector that meets the internship conditions, you can be exempted provided that you document your employment and submit a report on the work you have done. However, you can be exempt from only one internship (20 days) due to your work in the same workplace.
How should I prepare and submit the internship follow-up report (file)?
The report must be written in 12-point Times New Roman font with single line spacing. All pages must be initialed by the responsible engineer, and the inner cover must be signed and stamped. You must scan your report and send it digitally to the Commission via the link on the department's internship page within 3 working days at the latest from the internship end date.
What is the criterion for my internship to be considered successful?
The grade on the evaluation form filled out by the institution must be at least 3 out of 5, and the grade given by the Department Internship Commission after examining your report must also be at least 3 out of 5.
Can I change my internship placement after starting the internship?
Yes, but you cannot change your internship placement without the approval of the Department Internship Commission. To transfer to a new place, you must submit the "Internship Departure Form" (EK-6) to the commission at least 3 (three) working days before the departure date stated on the form.
What happens if I fail or do not do the internship?
Students who are not successful in the internship courses within the department and have not completed the 40-working-day internship obligation are not given undergraduate graduation documents (diploma, etc.). A student considered unsuccessful must repeat their internship until they are successful.
I am a double major (ÇAP) student, will the internship I do be valid for both departments?
If you request that the internship you will do be counted in both programs, you must get approval from the internship commissions of both departments regarding the suitability of the internship placement before starting the internship. Acceptance conditions are determined by the joint decision of the two commissions and the Faculty Executive Board.
